    1. France’s CNES space agency, Health Directorate and Armed Forces Department of Health sign framework cooperation agreement

      Friday 14 October, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall, Benoît Vallet, Head of the French health directorate (DGS), and Jean-Marc Debonne, Head of the armed forces department of health (SSA), signed a framework cooperation agreement at CNES’s Head Office. The agreement is part of the e-Health 2020 roadmap announced by France’s social affairs and health minister on 4 July 2016. It seeks to exploit the three organizations’ expertise to ensure effective healthcare provision.

    5. IASI INSTRUMENTS OBSERVE EFFECTS OF HEALTH CRISIS ON ATMOSPHERIC POLLUTION

      The IASI (Infrared Atmospheric Sounding Interferometer) mission led by CNES in partnership with Eumetsat relies on three weather satellites in low Earth orbit: MetOp-A, launched in October 2006, MetOp-B in September 2012 and MetOp-C in November 2018. Each of these satellites is carrying a IASI instrument installed by CNES and built by Thales Alenia Space. Data from the three instruments support weather forecasting and are helping to monitor Earth’s environment and climate.

      CNES, the agency responsible for recommending and implementing French space policy, and Inserm, Europe’s foremost biomedical research institute, have decided to further their cooperation in the field of space and health. They have now signed their first framework agreement relating to advances in basic research made by the study of humans in space and to the use of space assets for health issues.
